The incident of crucifying the body of a person on an Emirati armored vehicle after he was killed in the city of Ataq, the center of Shabwah province, on Sunday, sparked a massive wave of anger amid accusations directed at UAE-backed factions of committing crimes inconsistent with human values and morals.
Activists on social media posted footage showing the abuse of the body of a man named Hammam al-Yafei, who worked in a mobile phone repair shop in Shabwah. His body was hung on an armored vehicle belonging to the so-called “Counter-Terrorism Forces,” led by Abdulrahman al-Shanini. The body was transported from Ataq city in Shabwah to Zinjbar city in Abyan province.
The activists described the incident as a “terrorist act” against the person, even if he was involved in terrorism, stressing that this incident is similar to the methods of ISIS and Al-Qaeda in dealing with the dead and prisoners.
The incident came after Al-Shanini forces moved from Abyan towards Shabwah to storm a house in Ataq after surrounding it, leading to an exchange of fire that resulted in the death of the crucified person and the wounding of four others from the UAE-backed factions
