US Department of Defense approved a military sales package to Saudi Arabia worth up to half a billion dollars
The US Defense Security and Cooperation Agency, affiliated with the Pentagon, said that Congress had been notified of the approval of a military sales package to Saudi Arabia worth $500 million.
The agency added in a statement, “This proposed deal will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States, and will enhance Saudi Arabia’s ability to confront current and future threats.”
This comes amid Washington’s push towards normalizing relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
The US administration had announced the cessation of arms sales to Saudi Arabia due to violations in Yemen, but the decision was circumvented with deals to Saudi Arabia through other countries such as Bahrain before those decisions were officially withdrawn.
