Thousands of people demonstrated on  Saturday in central London in support of Palestine after police warned that anyone expressing support for the Palestinian resistance movement could be arrested.

The demonstrators, who gathered near the BBC headquarters in the morning, began a march in the British capital before holding the afternoon rally near Parliament and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s residence in Downing Street.

The demonstrators raised Palestinian flags and banners calling for “Freedom for Palestine”, “Stop the Massacre” and “Sanctions for Israel”, as the march made its way towards the arrival point where a number of speeches were planned.

“I think that all fair people in the world, not just in Britain, should stand up and demand an end to this madness,” The head of the UK-based campaign group Friends of Al-Aqsa (FOA), Ismail Patel, told AFP during the rally,  adding, “Otherwise in the next few days we may witness a catastrophe unfold.”

The demonstration comes as the Israeli occupation escalates its war, relentlessly bombards the Gaza Strip and mobilizes tens of thousands of troops in preparation for an expected ground offensive on the Strip.
