Eye of Humanity Center condemns Saudi enemy attack on fishermen off Taiz Coast

Eye of Humanity Center for Rights and Development condemned the Saudi enemy airstrike on fishing boats off Al-Kadha coast in Dhubab District, Taiz Governorate, which killed eight fishermen.

In a statement, the center said targeting fishermen at sea constitutes a direct attack on civilians and their livelihoods and a serious violation of international humanitarian law. It added that deliberately targeting people not participating in hostilities constitutes a war crime requiring accountability.

The center said the incident was part of ongoing violations against Yemenis, noting that attacks on fishing boats threaten fishermen’s lives, deprive their families of income and worsen their suffering.

According to the center’s documented figures, since 2015, 1,090 fishermen have been killed or injured, including 556 killed and 534 injured in 70 attacks. More than 2,000 Yemeni fishermen have also been abducted, while around 4,700 fishing boats and fish landing centers have been destroyed.

The center held Saudi Arabia responsible for the attack and its humanitarian and economic consequences, urging the international community , human rights organizations to protect Yemeni civilians, hold those responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law accountable, end attacks on fishermen and their livelihoods.
