Dozens of pro-Palestine students demonstrated on Thursday at universities across Britain in a stand against the Israeli war on Gaza, similar to sit-ins at universities in the United States.

Demonstrators at the universities of Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Sheffield and Newcastle set up tents and placed anti-Israel banners, as they called for an end to military action in the Gaza Strip.

Students from the University of Manchester filled the university’s garden with banners, paintings and Palestinian flags to call on the university to “end its partnership with regimes that support Israel.”

One banner read: “Britain supports Israeli genocide.”

In Bristol, students pressured their universities to cut ties with Israeli arms companies and support calls for a ceasefire as the war in Gaza rages.

Large crowds have also formed in Newcastle, where students say their protest “will highlight the university’s investment strategy and its complicity in war crimes committed by the Israeli army in Gaza and the West Bank.”

Earlier, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman said that the police “will have our full support” to address potential unrest if students try to repeat the violent demonstrations recently witnessed at American universities.
