Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Sana’a, Jamal Amer, received on Monday the credentials of the new head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) delegation in Yemen, Nino Burtikashvili.
Amer welcomed Burtikashvili, affirming his government’s readiness to provide all necessary facilities to ensure the success of her humanitarian mission. He praised the neutrality and independence of the IFRC, noting that these principles protect humanitarian work from politicization.
The foreign minister pointed to the pressures exerted on Yemen to change its supportive stance toward the Gaza Strip, including drying up funding sources for humanitarian organizations. He emphasized Sanaa’s steadfast position until the Israeli aggression on Gaza ends and aid is fully delivered.
Amer also called on the IFRC to increase its efforts in the areas most in need, especially in the border areas that are subject to continuous attacks by Saudi border guards. He pointed out that hospitals in Saada province receive daily casualties from Yemenis and African migrants due to these attacks, stressing that the UN Secretary-General’s decision to suspend humanitarian work in Saada has exacerbated the suffering of the population.
For her part, Burtikashvili expressed her appreciation for the cooperation she received, emphasizing that the IFRC is an independent international organization that operates with complete impartiality and focuses on the areas most in need in the areas of health, water, and relief. She indicated that the mission will work to alleviate the suffering of the population in Saada and other Yemeni provinces.
