Mahdi al-Mashat, the President of Yemen, has characterized the massive protests held in the capital and other provinces as a definitive message from the “people of faith and wisdom” to those who insult Islamic sanctities.
In statements to the official Saba news agency, al-Mashat stated that the vast public turnout in Sana’a’s Al-Sabeen Square and other provinces expresses the Yemeni people’s “distress and anger” over violations against the Quran by its enemies.
He called on other Islamic nations to take “sincere stances” in support of the Quran, which he described as the source of their strength and guidance.
Al-Mashat framed the protests as a reflection of the Yemeni people’s religious identity, pride in their faith, and allegiance to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&F). He asserted that the demonstrations also express anger towards the repeated American insults to the Quran and the Prophet.
He extended his gratitude to the Yemeni people for their “million-strong” turnout, which was in response to a call from the leader of the revolution, Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi.
Al-Mashat argued that repeated desecration of the Qur’an by politicians and activists in the US and other Western countries clearly reveals their “enmity and deep-seated hatred for Islam and Muslims” and their contempt for Islamic sanctities.
He attributed these actions to a “Zionist Jewish lobby,” which he affirmed leads the largest anti-Islam activity globally.
He concluded by asserting that such “criminal practices” pose a danger to the Muslim nation and society if they are met with silence and inaction.
