Yemeni Officials Reveal Major Exchange Prisoner Deal

Senior Yemeni officials announced on Tuesday a comprehensive prisoner exchange agreement with the Saudi side and other parties, brokered by the Sultanate of Oman and includes the release of 2,900 detainees from both sides.

Abdulqader al-Murtadha, head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs in Sana’a, clarified that the agreement stipulates the release of 1,700 prisoners from Sanaa in exchange for 1,200 from the other side. He noted that the list includes 7 Saudis and 23 Sudanese nationals.

 

For his part, the chief negotiator, Mohammed Abdulsalam, described the round as a “major deal,” praising Oman’s pivotal role in the success of the negotiations and for making progress in this humanitarian file. He added that further logistical details will be released at a later time.
