China Urges US to Immediately Release Maduro

China has urged the United States to immediately release Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, and to work toward resolving the crisis in Venezuela through dialogue and negotiation.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized in a statement today the need to guarantee the safety of Maduro and his wife, stressing that their detention violates international law and established international norms.

China also expressed deep concern over the US detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and their transfer outside their country.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry affirmed that this action constitutes a blatant violation of international law and the fundamental norms governing international relations, and contradicts the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.

This move comes immediately after US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday the arrest of his Venezuelan counterpart and his wife, and their airlift out of Venezuela, which sparked widespread attention and controversy on social media platforms.

In the early hours of Saturday, Venezuela experienced an unprecedented military escalation after the United States launched a large-scale airstrike named “Operation Absolute Resolve”, targeting military sites and vital facilities in the capital Caracas, as well as the states of Miranda, Aragua, and Vargas, including Fort Tiuna base and La Carlota military airport.

The strike occurred amid rising tensions and U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean, with maritime restrictions imposed under the pretext of combating drug trafficking and pressuring the Venezuelan government.
