A 27-day-old infant died on Saturday due to the extreme cold in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported, citing sources.
According to medical sources, the infant Aisha Ayesh al-Agha passed away in the city of Khan Younis due to the severe cold.
With the death of al-Agha, the number of children who have died in the Gaza Strip from the extreme cold since the beginning of the season has risen to eight, amid a severe shortage of humnintrain aid and a lack of heating supplies.
Sources warned that the incident highlights the severity of the humanitarian situation in the Strip, especially for children and displaced people living in flimsy tents ill-equipped to withstand the cold weather.
Residents of the Gaza Strip are suffering from a lack of shelter and medical care, and a lack of heating supplies due to fuel shortages, amidst a stormy, cold, and rainy weather system.
