The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) condemned the brutal attack carried out by the Israeli occupation army on the Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp in the city of Sidon, southern Lebanon, on Friday, which resulted in the killing of several civilians and left others injured.
In a press statement received by the Saba News Agency, the movement described the attack as a new crime added to the ongoing series of assaults against the Palestinian people and a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Hamas stated: “Targeting a camp that shelters thousands of Palestinian refugees and is densely populated with civilians represents a dangerous escalation and a blatant disregard for all international laws and norms. It reflects the Israeli government’s insistence on expanding its aggression and destabilizing security and stability in the region.”
The movement further affirmed that the claims put forward by the Israeli army regarding the targeting of the camp are unfounded pretexts that do not stand up to the facts, explaining that the facility targeted belongs to the Joint Security Force tasked with maintaining security and stability inside the camp.
Holding the Israeli government fully responsible for the consequences of this attack, Hamas called on the international community , Arab and Islamic countries to assume their political and legal responsibilities, take urgent action to stop these assaults, hold Israel accountable for its crimes, and provide protection for the Palestinian people wherever they are present.
