UN welcomes Russia–Ukraine ceasefire & hopes for success

The United Nations said it welcomes the ceasefire announcements by Russia and Ukraine and hopes they will be implemented successfully.

 

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, cited by Russia Today, said the Secretary-General calls for a full, immediate, unconditional, and lasting ceasefire leading to a just and sustainable peace in line with international law.

 

Russia announced a truce on May 8–9 by order of President Vladimir Putin, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire starting May 6.
