Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said on Friday evening that the horrific scenes and catastrophic reality experienced by freed Palestinian prisoners exiled to some countries reveal the scale of the crime and negligence committed by the Palestinian Authority against prisoners and former detainees.
Qassem added in a post on Facebook, monitored by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba): “It is unacceptable that freed prisoners live in this reality, while the Palestinian Authority squanders the Palestinian people’s resources on partisan appointments and fictitious positions, and consumes budgets on bodies that are of no benefit to the Palestinian people.”
He added: “We call on the President of the Authority to conduct an urgent review of the decisions taken against prisoners and former detainees, to reverse the policy of cutting their salaries, and to reject external conditions. Prisoners are symbols of the Palestinian people and the embodiment of sacrifice for freedom.”
