The Yemeni capital, Sana’a, witnessed a massive gathering on Tuesday as millions of Yemenis converged on Al-Sabeen Square to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad on the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal, 1448 AH.
The crowds began arriving early in the morning from across Sana’a and surrounding areas, steadily filling the square and the streets leading to it. By the afternoon, the main venue and surrounding thoroughfares were overflowing with participants, creating a vast scene of green flags, banners, and religious slogans.
At the heart of the gathering, the name “Muhammad” was displayed amid the crowds, symbolizing their devotion to the Prophet and their reverence for his legacy. Participants chanted “Labbayka ya Rasul Allah” (“At your service, O Messenger of Allah”) and reaffirmed their love, loyalty, and commitment to following his teachings.
The gathering also highlighted Yemenis’ support for Islamic causes, particularly Palestine, while participants pledged to maintain their stance in confronting challenges and what they described as plots targeting Yemen and the wider region.
The crowds sang traditional Islamic nasheeds, including Tala’a al-Badru Alayna, the famous chant traditionally associated with the Prophet Muhammad’s arrival in Medina. Religious chants, prophetic praises, and performances drawing on Yemen’s rich cultural heritage formed a central part of the celebration.
The leader of the revaluation , Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi addressed the millions gathered in Sana’a, congratulating them on what he described as a grand public commemoration of the Prophet’s birthday.
The event also featured a poem by Yemeni poet Abdul-Salam Al-Mumtaz, celebrating the significance of Mawlid and expressing Yemenis’ pride in and attachment to Prophet Muhammad and his legacy.
