The Supreme Political Council pointed out in a statement that it is following the ongoing Saudi escalation against the Yemeni people, foremost among which is the heinous massacre targeting the Central Correctional Facility in Al-Hazm city, Al-Jawf Governorate, which resulted in the death and injury of a number of its inmates, coinciding with brutal attacks targeting civilian homes in a number of governorates, in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and relevant international covenants.
The following is the text of the statement:
The Supreme Political Council is following the ongoing Saudi escalation against the Yemeni people, foremost among which is the heinous massacre targeting the Central Correctional Facility in Al-Hazm city, Al-Jawf Governorate, which resulted in the death and injury of a number of its inmates, coinciding with brutal attacks targeting civilian homes in a number of governorates, in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and relevant international covenants.
While the Supreme Political Council condemns, in the strongest terms, the targeting of the Central Correctional Facility and those within it, it considers this crime to be an extremely serious development, for which the Saudi enemy bears full responsibility, as well as for its repercussions, and for the consequences of its choice to continue escalation instead of responding to the requirements of peace and the lifting of suffering from the Yemeni people.
The Council affirms that the blood of the Yemeni people is not forfeit, and that the targeting of civilians and detainees, and the violation of the sovereignty of the Yemeni Republic, will not go unpunished, and that Yemen will not stand idly by in the face of the continuation of this escalation, within its full and legitimate right to defend its people, sovereignty, and interests. The Saudi enemy must realize that every escalation has its consequences, and that continuing this approach will move the situation to a new phase, for which it bears full responsibility for its results and repercussions.
While we hold the Saudi regime responsible for this escalation, we call on the United Nations, the Security Council, and the relevant organizations to immediately and explicitly condemn this targeting, and to break their shameful silence regarding these ongoing crimes.
The Council also directs the government and the relevant authorities to urgently provide emergency relief and necessary first aid to the wounded, care for the families of the martyrs, assess the damage, document the violations, and complete all necessary legal and rights-related procedures, ensuring the preservation of the victims’ rights and the accountability of the criminals.
The Supreme Political Council extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the martyrs, wishing the wounded a speedy recovery, and affirming to our people that the blood of their sons will not be shed in vain, and that their rights and the sovereignty of their country will not be subject to neglect or compromise. The protection of the people, the safeguarding of their rights and sovereignty, is a religious and national responsibility that admits no leniency. These crimes, no matter how brutal, will only increase Yemen in faith and steadfastness until the final victory is achieved and every inch of our land is liberated.
Victory to Yemen, and God is prevailing over His command.
