The Ministry of Transport and Public Works condemned the Saudi enemy use of Al-Rayyan International Airport in Hadramout as a logistical military base for transporting weapons and lethal military equipment used against Yemenis.
In a statement, the ministry said the civilian airport, originally serving passengers, patients and students, had been turned into a corridor for transporting missiles, shells, drones and heavy weapons used to target civilians across Yemen.
It described the airport’s militarization as a war crime and a flagrant violation of international conventions, holding all those involved accountable before international courts.
The ministry said closing the airport to civilian flights and converting it into a military facility deprives thousands of patients, students , traders of their rights and constitutes collective punishment aimed at destroying Yemen’s infrastructure.
It urged international organizations and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to condemn the airport’s conversion into a military base, warning of the direct threat to international civil aviation.
The ministry also called on the United Nations to dispatch an immediate fact-finding mission to document the nature of military shipments, describing the airport’s militarization as criminal and hostile conduct.
