Russian media mocked the US THAAD missile defense system for its failure to intercept Yemeni missiles targeting Israeli territory.
The Russian newspaper Pars Today reported that the US deployed its THAAD missile defense system in occupied Palestine following Iran’s attack on Israel on October 1, 2024, as part of efforts to bolster Tel Aviv’s defenses.
The report stated, “While Israeli forces and their affiliated media heavily promoted the American THAAD missile defense system, the Yemeni ballistic missile Palestine-2, which targeted Tel Aviv, practically demonstrated the system’s ineffectiveness.”
The report explained that the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) system was developed by the US to defend against high-altitude missile threats. Its purpose is to protect military forces in combat zones, as well as critical population centers and sensitive infrastructure, from short-, medium-, and long-range ballistic missile threats, whether inside or outside the atmosphere.
The THAAD system comprises four key components: radar, a command-and-control center, launchers, and interceptor missiles.
Yemen has emerged as a critical ally for Palestine, standing firmly in support of the Palestinian struggle against Israeli aggression. Since October 7, when the Israeli regime launched its devastating war on Gaza, resulting in over 45,000 Palestinian deaths, Yemen has openly declared its opposition to Israeli atrocities. The Yemeni Armed Forces have vowed to sustain their military operations until Israel halts its brutal ground and aerial assaults in Gaza.
Israel’s campaign of genocide, initiated in response to the Palestinian resistance’s Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, has been marked by a near-total blockade on Gaza, choking off essential supplies of food, water, medicine, and electricity to the besieged territory.
In a bid to bolster its defenses, the United States deployed its advanced Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to Israel, positioning it as the last line of defense against incoming missiles. However, the Yemeni ballistic missile Palestine-2 has highlighted the system’s vulnerabilities. With its high speed and advanced maneuverability, Yemen’s missile technology has outpaced the capabilities of the THAAD system, striking critical targets in Tel Aviv and other regions.
This glaring failure of the THAAD system underscores the broader inadequacies of both Israeli and US defense strategies. Yemeni operations, carried out with remarkable precision, continue to penetrate deep into occupied territories, leaving millions of Israelis living in constant fear. The resilience of Yemeni military tactics and technology has exposed the shortcomings of even the most sophisticated defense systems, challenging the perceived invincibility of Israeli and US military prowess.
