Several Turkish provinces witnessed protests on Friday condemning the Israeli attack on the “Global Sumud Fleet,” which was heading to Gaza to break the blockade.
The “Platform for Supporting Palestine” held a demonstration after Friday prayers in front of Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul, in solidarity with the activists on board the fleet, according to Anadolu Agency.
Protesters raised slogans such as “Steadfastness will continue” and condemned Israeli actions against Palestinians in Gaza. Similar rallies were held in multiple provinces including Izmir, Antalya, Diyarbakir, and others.
The Israeli army had announced the arrest of 175 activists after seizing more than 20 vessels in international waters. The fleet included 345 participants from 39 countries.
Organizers said the mission aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, while Israel intercepted the ships in international waters, drawing widespread criticism.
