Education Ministry: New Academic Year to Begin on 5 Muharram

Yemen’s Ministry of Education and Scientific Research has announced the academic calendar for the upcoming 1448 AH (2026/2027) school year, with classes scheduled to commence for all educational levels on June 20, 2026 (Muharram 5, 1448 AH).

In a statement, Minister of Education and Scientific Research Hassan Al-Saadi said that student enrollment and registration in both public and private schools began on Saturday, June 6.

He called for all teaching staff to resume duties across all educational stages beginning Saturday, 27 Dhul-Hijjah, corresponding to June 13.

Al-Saadi stated that classes will be held five days a week in accordance with the academic calendar issued under Ministerial Decree No. (100) of 1447 AH / 2026.

The minister confirmed that first-semester examinations for all levels will begin on Tuesday, 18 Rabi’ al-Thani 1448 AH, corresponding to September 29, 2026, while the mid-year break will start on Saturday, 29 Rabi’ al-Thani, corresponding to October 10.

According to the academic calendar, second-semester classes will resume on 6 Jumada al-Awwal, corresponding to October 17, while final promotion exams for all educational levels will begin on Tuesday, 18 Sha’ban 1448 AH, corresponding to January 26, 2027.

General secondary school examinations for both the scientific and literary streams are scheduled to begin on Saturday, 12 Shawwal, corresponding to March 20, 2027. General basic education certificate examinations will begin the following day, 13 Shawwal.
