The National Human Rights Authority strongly condemned on Saturday the dangerous military escalation carried out by Saudi warplanes over the past 48 hours, targeting six Yemeni provinces.
In a statement received by the Yemen News Agency (Saba), the authority said Saudi warplanes conducted 129 airstrikes targeting the provinces of Taiz, Marib, Hodeidah, Jawf, Sa’ada, Amran and Hajjah, using F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets launched from Saudi military bases in Khamis Mushait.
It said the attacks systematically targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure, describing the escalation as a war crime under Article 8 of the Rome Statute and a violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction and proportionality.
The authority called on the UN Security Council to convene immediately and fulfill its legal , moral responsibilities to stop the attacks and hold those responsible accountable. It also urged the international community to halt arms supplies to Saudi Arabia , called on the Red Cross and humanitarian organizations to urgently assist those affected.
The authority said it would continue documenting the alleged violations , submit them to international and legal bodies to ensure accountability.
