The Taiz Network for Rights and Freedoms condemned, in the strongest terms, the crimes and grave violations committed by armed formations affiliated with the Saudi enemy, which resulted in the martyrdom of two citizens by sniper fire and artillery shelling in the districts of Sabr Al-Mawadhim and Khadir in Taiz Governorate.
The Network explained in a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that field monitoring teams documented an incident of direct targeting of a civilian in the Al-Kuraifat area of Sabr Al-Mawadhim District, following gunfire from medium weapons and snipers by Saudi enemy mercenaries, resulting in the martyrdom of citizen Mohammed Abdullah Ali Saif (60 years old) from a gunshot wound to the head.
It pointed out that the second crime occurred on the same day in the Wadi Al-Hussein area of Khadir District, when the area was subjected to artillery shelling by the same formations affiliated with the Saudi enemy, resulting in the martyrdom of citizen Abdulrahman Othman Ali Nasser (48 years old) while he was on his farm carrying out his regular work.
The Network’s Legal Department affirmed that these two crimes constitute a flagrant violation of the rules of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
It noted that the deliberate targeting of civilians is a clear violation of the international obligation requiring complete separation between civilian objects and military targets, stating that the use of excessive force through sniping and artillery shelling against civilians constitutes a blatant assault on the legal protection afforded to civilian populations in armed conflicts, and an unlawful infringement on their inherent right to life.
The Network confirmed that all legal elements indicating intentionality and indiscriminateness in the targeting are present, which legally elevates both incidents to the status of war crimes that require criminal prosecution of the perpetrators.
The Taiz Network held the Saudi enemy and its mercenaries fully legally and criminally responsible for these crimes, calling on relevant authorities to complete the preservation of evidence, collect testimonies, and refer the violation files to the competent courts.
