The government media office in Gaza said that the Zionist enemy authorities have arrested more than 5,000 prisoners from the Strip since October 7, 2023, which brings the number of Palestinian prisoners inside the enemy’s prisons to nearly 10,000 prisoners.

The office said in a statement on the anniversary of Palestinian Prisoner’s Day, which falls on Wednesday that “The Zionist enemy practices the worst forms of torture against prisoners in its prisons, calling on the world to assume its moral and legal responsibilities towards their humanitarian cause.”

The statement added “We are witnessing the anniversary of Palestinian Prisoner’s Day, while the prisoners in the enemy’s prisons have doubled in numbers and suffering, and they live a harsh life due to their poor, inhumane living conditions imposed by the enemy in its prisons, which lack the lowest meanings of humanity.”

It stated that the anniversary this year marks the continuation of a genocidal war waged by the Zionist enemy army on the Gaza Strip against civilians, children and women for the seventh month in a row, and Palestinian prisoners are still being subjected to the most horrific types of retaliatory measures, aimed at depriving them of their most basic rights.

The Zionist enemy forces, supported by the United States and Europe, continue to commit the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip, for the 194th consecutive day, by launching dozens of air strikes, artillery shelling, and fire belts, committing bloody massacres against civilians, and carrying out horrific crimes in the areas of incursion, amid a catastrophic humanitarian crisis situation resulting from the siege and the displacement of more than 90 percent of the population.
