The “Steadfastness” Alliance is gearing up to launch one of the largest civilian naval convoys towards the Gaza Strip, with boats from some 39 nations participating. This extensive civilian movement carries significant symbolic and humanitarian weight.
This civilian initiative aims to condemn the “silence of governments” regarding the events in Gaza and to demand an end to the genocide and the urgent delivery of aid to the Strip.
According to Al Jazeera Net, activists from the United States are involved in preparing and coordinating the dispatch of two American-flagged boats. These are expected to sail from locations in the Mediterranean Sea as part of the global coordination for the “Steadfastness” flotilla. Organizers hope this American participation will symbolize the widespread public anger in the U.S. over their government’s official support for the blockade and genocidal policies in Gaza.
The “Steadfastness” Alliance, which is coordinating this international effort, comes after the failure of last June’s “Global March to Gaza.” That previous attempt sought to reach the Strip by land via Egypt, with hundreds of participants from 80 countries.
Organizers of the “Steadfastness” fleet are banking on escalating international momentum amid the ongoing massacres in Gaza. They hope participation will reach approximately 50 civilian vessels, departing from various ports and arriving simultaneously at Gaza’s shores.
Despite repeated Israeli threats not to allow any boat to reach Gaza’s coast, those behind the campaign assert that these boats—even if intercepted—carry political and humanitarian messages that cannot be detained. They are also banking on public pressure in Western countries and broader media coverage than what accompanied previous boats, especially after the international attention garnered by the “Hanzala” and “Madeleine” ships.
