At least 300 people have been killed in northern Pakistan due to floods caused by heavy rainfall in the hills and mountains of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to Pakistani officials who spoke to Reuters.
Rescue officials stated on Friday that over 2,000 people were evacuated to safer areas in the Swat region after rivers overflowed their banks.
In Bajaur, near the Afghan border, a helicopter carrying relief supplies to flood victims crashed due to severe weather, killing all five crew members on board.
In recent weeks, hundreds of people have died in Pakistan as the country has experienced heavier-than-usual rainfall during the current monsoon season, which has washed away roads and buildings.
In response to the situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired an emergency meeting to discuss the flood conditions, as announced in a statement from his office.
