US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the United States has conducted a “large-scale strike” in Venezuela, resulting in the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, who were subsequently flown out of the country.
The past few hours have seen a violent military escalation, including:
Reports confirmed US Marines landing on northern islands, alongside the presence of U.S. ground forces within the capital, Caracas.
Intensive airstrikes targeted the vicinity of the Presidential Palace, the Port of Caracas, and sovereign military installations on Margarita Island and Higuerote Airport.
Widespread internet and power outages were reported, while US Air Force units disabled transponders to mask the flight paths of the ongoing bombardment.
In response, Venezuela announced the total closure of its airspace. Local sources described the intervention as a “direct aggression” targeting state symbols and infrastructure in defiance of international law.
