Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico confirmed on Monday that his country will not support any loans intended for Ukraine’s military spending and will not provide any weapons free of charge, stressing Slovakia’s rejection of participation in any European mechanisms aimed at financing the war or covering Kyiv’s military expenses.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 8th European Political Community Summit in Armenia, Fico said Slovakia “will not take part in any financial schemes aimed at supporting Ukraine in managing the war or military expenditure,” adding that his country “will not contribute even 1%” to such funding, according to Sputnik.
He added that Slovakia will not sign any financial guarantees linked to funding Ukraine during the 2026–2027 period, announcing plans to hold an extraordinary parliamentary session to formalize this position.
Fico emphasized that Slovak support is limited to humanitarian aid only, and that the country rejects using its budget for any military-related spending connected to the conflict.
