IRGC Navy declares Iran-designated channels only safe routes through Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has warned that vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz must use only the routes officially designated by Iran, following reports that a new shipping route had been announced by certain authorities without prior consultation with Tehran.

In a statement issued early Thursday, the IRGC Navy described the newly announced route as unacceptable and extremely dangerous, stressing that it had been introduced without the knowledge or coordination of Iranian authorities.

The statement emphasized that the only authorized navigation corridors through the strategically important waterway are those previously communicated by Iran. It warned that any vessel operating outside these designated routes would be entering prohibited and potentially hazardous areas.

The movement of ships outside the announced routes is highly dangerous and forbidden, the IRGC Navy said, urging all maritime operators to refrain from using unauthorized passages.

The force also stated that coordination with the IRGC Navy is mandatory for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and must be conducted through maritime Channel 16.

The statement concluded by warning that any vessel found violating the regulations would face appropriate action by Iran.
