Yemen demands unrestricted reopening of airport to all destinations

A source in Yemen’s national negotiating delegation reiterated that Sana’a International Airport must reopen to all destinations without exception, rejecting what it described as attempts to resolve the issue through partial measures.

Furthermore, the source in the negotiating delegation told the Yemeni news agency Saba that Yemen’s demand remains the unrestricted reopening of the airport to all destinations.

The source said any airline announcements on flights to and from Sana’a would be welcomed only if agreed upon with the relevant authorities and implemented without restrictions, rejecting what it described as symbolic or partial measures that circumvent Yemen’s demands.

According to the delegation, negotiations are no longer limited to the issue of Sana’a International Airport but now encompass all humanitarian files, foremost among them the payment of public sector salaries.

Saudi Arabia has led a military campaign against Yemen since March 2015, backed by the United States and other allies, resulting in widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure, thousands of civilian casualties, and which the United Nations said is one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

Despite the de-escalation process that had been in place since the 2022 truce, Riyadh is maintaining an air, land, and sea blockade that has crippled the country’s economy, restricted access to medical treatment and essential goods, and targeted key civilian facilities, including Sana’a International Airport.

Recent tensions intensified after Saudi airstrikes hit the airport, prompting the Yemeni Armed Forces to announce retaliatory measures and warn of further escalation unless the blockade is lifted
