The Iranian news agency Mehr quoted Baghaei as saying that the Caspian Sea Convention, reached in 2018, requires ratification by all member states to enter into force.
He stated that while the agreement has been approved by the other four littoral states (Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan), its entry into force requires ratification by all Caspian Sea littoral states, including Iran.
He noted that submitting the agreement to the Iranian parliament for ratification is an important step in completing the legal procedures related to the Caspian Sea and will enable more transparent and constructive interaction between Iran and the other littoral states.
Russia wants Iran to sign the agreement before the possible summit of Caspian Sea littoral states, scheduled for August 12 in the Iranian capital, Tehran, according to the Mehr news agency.
