The 20th Asian Games, Aichi-Nagoya 2026, opened on Saturday at Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya, Japan, with Yemen participating.
The Games will run through October 4.
Emperor Naruhito inaugurated the event, which brings together around 11,000 athletes from 45 countries , regions competing in 43 sports and 71 disciplines.
Yemen is represented by 27 participants, including 17 athletes and 10 coaches, competing in nine sports: table tennis, tennis, wushu, shooting, archery, boxing, swimming, athletics and judo.
The opening ceremony featured Japanese cultural and artistic performances and the parade of participating delegations. Yemen’s flag was carried by table tennis player Majed Al-Dhubhani and shooting athlete Yasmeen Al-Raimi.
The Games feature 469 events, with 1,407 medals at stake. Yemen will begin its competitions tomorrow in table tennis and swimming.
