At least seven people were killed and 40 others injured when Saudi warplanes struck commercial shops in the Central Market, located at the Mawiyah junction in At-Ta’iziyah District, Taiz province, the Ministry of Health and Environment said.
In a statement carried by the Yemen News Agency (Saba), the ministry confirmed seven civilians were killed and 40 others injured, including five children, in an initial toll from the attack.
The ministry condemned the attack, accusing Saudi warplanes of deliberately targeting civilian sites in Mawiyah Junction, Al-Ta’ziyah district, in several airstrikes on commercial shops at the Economic Corporation Market and the wall of the provincial radio station.
It described the attack as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks on markets and civilian facilities.
It added that the attack was a continuation of Saudi Arabia’s record of crimes against the Yemeni people over 12 years of blockade and ongoing attacks, amid what the ministry described as shameful Arab and international silence and complicity.
