The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways has denied reports claiming that Iran’s rail links with China and Russia have been disrupted.
Iran’s Railways said in a statement cited by Fars News Agency on Saturday that reports claiming Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan had halted rail freight from China and Russia to Iran in compliance with new U.S. sanctions were false and baseless.
Earlier reports alleged that the two Central Asian countries had imposed restrictions on rail shipments bound for Iran amid increased U.S. sanctions pressure. Iran’s rail network is connected to Central Asian transport routes through border crossings such as Sarakhs, facilitating trade , freight movement between Iran, China, Russia and other regional countries.
