According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency today, Friday, Van Hollen said in a post on the “X” platform that the attack targeting a wedding ceremony in the Sirik area of Iran’s Hormozgan province warrants investigation and accountability, while also calling for an end to the war.
The senator criticized Hegseth’s stance on civilian casualties, stating that the Secretary of Defense treats them as a secondary issue, downplays the importance of forces tasked with preventing civilian casualties, and boasts about the absence of “foolish rules of engagement.”
Van Hollen referred to the American airstrike that targeted the coastal city of Kohestak in the Sirik area, affirming that the attack requires a comprehensive investigation and accountability for those responsible.
These statements came after the American airstrike on a residential building where a wedding ceremony was being held in “Kohestak” resulted in the deaths of at least 5 martyrs and 67 injured.
