The Yemeni Ministry of Electricity, Energy, and Water has condemned Saudi enemy airstrikes targeting the Al-Salif Water Project and surrounding areas in Hodeidah province, which resulted in the facility being taken out of service and causing casualties.
In an official statement, the ministry said the aggression warplanes launched five airstrikes targeting the Al-Salif Water Project and adjacent areas, completely destroying the main reservoir and the solar energy project, as well as the emergency generators attached to the facility.
The direct targeting of these vital installations resulted in the complete shutdown of the project and several injuries, with the wounded transferred to Al-Thawra General Hospital in Hodeidah for treatment.
Field teams have been mobilized to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage and to find urgent solutions to restore service and alleviate the suffering of citizens, the ministry said.
The ministry emphasized that targeting civilian facilities and infrastructure—particularly water sector services—constitutes a “heinous crime” and a “flagrant violation” of international norms, charters, and humanitarian laws.
It held the Saudi enemy fully responsible for the continued targeting of service facilities and infrastructure, reaffirming that the Yemeni people are determined to reclaim their rights, break the siege, and end the aggression.
The Al-Salif Water Project is a critical infrastructure facility serving the population of Hodeidah province. The deliberate targeting of water infrastructure constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks on objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population.
