Minor earthquake registered northeast of Sana’a

A light earthquake measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale was recorded 16 kilometers northeast of Sana’a at 1:23 a.m. on Sunday, with a focal depth of 18 kilometers, according to the Seismological and Volcanological Observatory Center.

The Center described the quake as light, noting that such seismic activity is routine.

It added that occasional minor seismic events recorded across various parts of Yemen are caused by stress accumulation within tectonic crustal rocks on land, influenced by seismic activity along the African Plate and the ongoing expansion of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
