Syria: Families displaced after Israeli shelling of western Daraa countryside

Families have fled the village of Abidin in the Yarmouk Basin area of western Daraa countryside to safer locations after the village came under heavy shelling and machine-gun fire by Israeli forces, triggering fear and panic among civilians, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported, citing sources.

According to SOHR sources, Israeli occupation forces shelled the village with artillery while military helicopters conducted intensive flights over the area and opened machine-gun fire.

The attack reportedly followed an incident in which local residents confronted Israeli troops that had entered the village, throwing stones in protest at their presence.

The escalation came hours after tensions flared in Abidin, where residents reportedly blocked the road to Israeli military patrols. Israeli forces then fired warning shots into the air before withdrawing from the area.

Villages across the Yarmouk Basin remain on high alert amid growing concerns among residents that the escalation could continue and military operations could expand across the western Daraa countryside.
