The Ministry of Expatriate Affairs in the National Salvation Government of Yemen in Sana’a, has on Saturday strongly condemned the Saudi authorities’ decision to deport Yemeni expatriates from the provinces of Najran, Jizan, Asir, Al-Baha, and other southern Saudi regions.
The arbitrary measures taken by Riyadh gave the owners of commercial centers, enterprises and companies a period of just four months to either transfer Yemeni workers to other regions of the country, or replace them with workers of other nationalities.
Yemenis have been present in these areas for decades, and many have real estate and commercial properties and capital registered in the names of their Saudi employers according to the sponsorship system, the statement explained.
In fact, the provinces of Jizan, Najran and Asir are historically part of Yemen, and were only annexed by Saudi Arabia following a Saudi invasion in 1934.
The Ministry said that these arbitrary measures are inconsistent with the most basic human rights guaranteed by international laws, charters and laws, stressing Yemenis’ rights to sue Saudi Arabia before international courts and organisations.
The Ministry’s statement called on the United Nations and international organisations concerned with human rights, to play their role towards the violations practiced by the Saudi authorities against Yemenis residing on its lands, the latest of which was preventing their very presence in the southern regions.
