Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein al-Azzi has called on the Security Council to restore the confidence in the Yemeni people to reconsider their policies as a seat of Yemen’s Republic at the United Nations is occupied by people who do not represent Yemen.

The Security Council must respect the aspirations and choices of the Yemeni people and not limit itself to the one-way information,” the deputy foreign minister said at a press conference held on Saturday, expressing his hope that the Council would take a decision to open Sanaa airport and lift restrictions on ships in a victory for the Swedish agreement.

Al-Azzi called on the Security Council to change its policy, to take into account the facts presented by the national forces, reexamine its positions regarding Yemen, and to open its eyes to Sana’a as well as allow the chance to be heard.

With regard to the FSO Safer oil tanker, the Deputy Foreign Minister explained that Sanaa recently called for urgent repairs to the ship to preserve the marine environment and to send the necessary equipment in conjunction with the evaluation work.

“We don’t want the UN team to come with empty hands and we have facilitated visas for them and we have asked for some equipment to make the necessary repairs,” he said.

Al-Azzi noted that the United Nations has recently maintained the separation of evaluation and maintenance work and insisted on sending the team for evaluation.

The deputy foreign minister revealed that Sanaa addressed Sweden, Russia and China over Safar after it had touched the procrastination and slowdown of the United Nations in its maintenance. These countries are answering, but they stipulated UN participation.

“Our technical team made a series of observations regarding the evaluation and repair of the ship and the United Nations realized its necessity and importance, but insisted on the irregular visit to ‘Safar’ to file a pre-prepared report that does not even include the evaluation,” he added.

The UN agenda said that it is not concerned with the maintenance and longevity of the ship and the UN envoy found that there was a serious irregularity, he continued, adding that the world should realize that the slowdown or negligence in the maintenance of Safer is not carried out or done by Sanaa.

Al-Ezzi said the Salvation government once again requested to sent experts team to carry out the maintenance of the Ship Safar to reduce the disaster, and the response came and we were shocked by the UN agenda, saying  “the United Nations has backed away from sending an ‘Anfim team’ to the port of Hodeidah and demanded that it be waived and not linked to the Safar ship despite their visas have been issued.

He explained that it had been agreed with the envoy to send a experts team to evaluate and repair the damage of the Safar ship and to send the ‘Anfim team’ to Hodeidah to reduce restrictions on the entry of ships, especially since the Agreement of Sweden expressly stipulated that oil and food vessels should not be intercepted, calling on the United Nations should implement its commitments.

Al-Ezzi noted that in 2016, Safar was in a good condition and the authority in Sanaa was more concerned for its safety, but the Aggression coalition prevented the entry of spare parts and the entry of gasoline to carry out periodic maintenance of the ship as well as Sanaa appealed to the world to carry its duties towards the ship.

“We have addressed the United Nations and the international community with official letters and media appeals and in all our meetings with UN officials to neutralize the supplies of the maintenance of Safer tanker from the blockade,” he added.

The Deputy Foreign Minister confirmed that Sanaa is the only party that has demanded the maintenance of Safer since 2016 until today as ” in the spirit of our national duty, and after three years of appeals for the maintenance of the Tanker, the UN envoy responded.

“We are the primary beneficiary of repairing and maintaining ‘Safer ship’, and we are the first to suffer from any disaster that could happen. Therefore, we cannot retreat from our commitment or hinder the maintenance work”, said al-Ezzi.

Al-Ezzi addressed the US Secretary of State, Pompeo, saying, “… you are partners in killing the Yemeni people and destroying their capabilities.”
