The National Military Committee, accompanied by UN envoy Hans Grundberg, left Wednesday morning, the Jordanian capital, Amman, to return to the capital, Sana’a.

“After completing the discussions of the first phase on roads and violations, the Military Committee will leave Amman and return to the capital, Sana’a, accompanied by the UN envoy,” the head of the National Delegation Mohammed Abdulsalam said on his Telegram page.

“The Saudi-backed side should deal positively with proposed initiatives or our team will move to implement them,” Abdulsalam stressed.

The head of National Military Committee Yahya Al-Razami has confirmed that Saudi-backed party’s obstruction of opening roads, and its rejection of the proposals submitted by the committee, proves that it does not want to alleviate the suffering of the citizens.

General Al-Razami explained that the Saudi-backed party is seeking to achieve narrow political and partisan gains in order to serve its military objectives.

“We are still in our firm position on opening roads as a first stage that will contribute to alleviating the suffering of the people of Taiz and the other governorates” He said.

Al-Razami confirmed that an agreement was reached between all parties to form joint operations rooms to follow up violations on the fronts during the UN-Sponsored truce period.

On Sunday, the National Salvation Government announced the implementation of a unilateral initiative, to raise the earthen barriers in preparation for the opening of a road inside the city of Taiz.

In its request to extend the two-month truce, the United Nations focused on opening major roads in Taiz and identified them before any agreement with the committee and wanted to prove them in extending the truce. It was not interested in completing the basic requirements of the truce before any other discussion, or at least the commitment to implement the rest of them, such as the number of flights.

The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen has submitted a proposal to gradually open roads, ensuring an implementation mechanism and guarantees for the safety of civilian travelers.

He called on the two parties to “conclude their internal deliberations urgently and achieve positive results for the Yemeni people.”

Grundberg stressed that “the importance of lifting restrictions on the freedom of movement of people and goods is not limited to the positive impact of alleviating the suffering of Yemenis and reviving their economy, but will also help enhance confidence in the political process.”

In late May, President Mahdi Al-Mashat affirmed that if the military negotiating committee in Jordan does not see new signs regarding closed roads to alleviate suffering of Yemeni people, the committee will announce a unilateral initiative.

He added that the US-Saudi aggression is sparing no effort to exploit the suffering of the citizens in Taiz governorate, explaining that there is a varying agenda of the Saudi-backed government that uses the suffering and difficult conditions in Taiz and the various governorates.
