ICRC Expresses Deep Concern Over Bombing Of Detention Facility In Yemen’s Saada

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Yemen expressed deep concern over reports that a detention facility in Saada province was bombed early yesterday morning, Monday.

“The teams of the Yemeni Red Crescent Society are working intensively in the field to provide humanitarian support by evacuating the wounded to hospitals and providing necessary medical care. The teams are also making diligent efforts to ensure dignified management of the deceased,” ICRC said in a statement.

It added, “For the past few years, ICRC delegates regularly visited detainees held in this facility as part of its ongoing work to ensure humane treatment and detention conditions.”

The ICRC reiterated its call to all parties to respect and protect civilians, including people deprived of their liberty, in accordance with international humanitarian law. Parties must take every feasible precaution to avoid civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.

The ICRC remains committed to providing lifesaving assistance and addressing the urgent needs of those most affected, including through its support for the YRCS, the statement stressed.
