Al-Awda Association: Half a Million Gazans Facing Acute Food Crisis

The Director-General of the Al-Awda Health and Community Association in Gaza, Rafat Al-Majdalawi, stated today that approximately 550,000 residents in the Gaza Strip are facing a severe food shortage.

In a statement to Al Jazeera on Saturday, Al-Majdalawi described the situation in hospitals as catastrophic due to a critical lack of all medical supplies.

Since March 2, Israeli forces have closed all crossings into Gaza, preventing the entry of any humanitarian aid. This has plunged the Strip into a state of famine, despite aid trucks being stacked at the borders and only limited quantities—insufficient to meet the minimum needs of the population—being allowed to enter.

Recently, the World Food Programe warned that “a third of Gaza’s population has not eaten for several days,” describing the humanitarian situation in the Strip as “unprecedented in its levels of hunger and despair.”
