Lebanese Soldiers Martyred, Injured in Explosion of Israeli War Leftover Munitions

Several Lebanese army personnel were killed and others injured on Saturday when ammunition remnants from Israeli aggression exploded during an attempt to dismantle them in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese National News Agency reported.

According to the agency, the blast occurred in an area between the towns of Majdal Zoun and Zebqine in the Tyre district, where an army engineering team was working to neutralize unexploded ordnance.

The explosion resulted in both fatalities and injuries, though the exact toll has not yet been officially confirmed.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun made a phone call to Army Commander General Rodolphe Heikal, who briefed him on the details of the tragic incident.

President Aoun expressed his deep sorrow for the loss of these soldiers, extending condolences to their families and the army.

He emphasized that Lebanon has lost exemplary citizens who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation’s defense.

“These martyrs represent the highest values of sacrifice and devotion, reinforcing the Lebanese Army’s role as the protector of the country,” he said as quoted by Lebanese media.

For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam paid tribute to the fallen soldiers saying: “With pride and reverence, we bid farewell to the brave sons of our army who were martyred in the south while performing their national duty.”
