Iranian President appoints Admiral Ali Shamkhani as Secretary of Supreme Defense Council

Iranian President and Head of the Defense Council, Masoud Pezeshkian, appointed Admiral Ali Shamkhani, the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the Defense Council, as the Secretary of this council on Thursday.

 

According to Iranian television, the duties of the Secretary of the Defense Council include establishing and managing the council’s general secretariat, and following up on its specialized programs. These programs encompass: designing and enhancing comprehensive defensive readiness, developing mechanisms to confront emerging threats, achieving integration among various pillars of power in the Islamic Republic within the defense sphere, organizing frameworks for defense diplomacy, in addition to structuring , organizing strategic communication and perception warfare activities within the strategic defense field.

 

The Defense Council is an organizational framework established after the Twelve-Day War, in response to the nature of new threats, aiming to enhance coordination and harmony, raise the level of efficiency in defense decision-making, and strengthen deterrence at the highest levels. Shamkhani has been present in this council since its establishment as the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

 

Admiral Ali Shamkhani is considered one of the veteran and prominent leaders of the armed forces, having been a source of extensive service in defense and security fields. He has been actively involved since the victory of the Islamic Revolution until today, holding multiple responsibilities.

These include commanding the Revolutionary Guard in Khuzestan, serving as Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), commanding the IRGC Ground Force, serving as Deputy for Intelligence and Operations in the General Staff of the Armed Forces, commanding naval forces in both the Army and the Revolutionary Guard, serving as Minister of Defense, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, in addition to being a political advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
