Ireland bans Zionist Ben Gvir and Smotrich, calls for sanctions against them

Ireland has imposed a travel ban on Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and called for EU-level sanctions against them.

Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin said the actions and statements of the two ministers “amount to a desire to see the elimination of Palestinians from Palestine,” adding that further measures against them are needed at the European Union level.

He noted that Ireland will seek to raise the issue within EU institutions, saying their conduct justifies potential sanctions at the European level.

Irish Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan confirmed that the decision was approved by the government and that immigration authorities have been instructed to refuse entry to Ben Gvir and Smotrich if they attempt to enter Ireland.

The move comes amid growing European calls for action against the two Israeli ministers, including from France, Spain, and Italy.
