Maj. Gen. Al-Mushki: Israeli presence in Somaliland constitutes threat and direct military act against Yemen

Deputy Chief of the General Staff and head of the national redeployment team, Major General Ali Hamoud Al-Mushki, met in Sana’a today with Anthony Hayward, the Military Adviser to the UN Special Envoy for Yemen and head of the Redeployment Coordination Committee

During the meeting, they discussed the UN Envoy’s office work plan, particularly following the transfer of the Hodeidah mission’s responsibilities to the Envoy’s office.

Al-Mushki told the envoy’s representative that the new mechanism’s work plan had come too late, arguing that the opposing side had boycotted the committee’s activities for years while continuing military escalation and expanding ceasefire violations.

He pointed out that the United Nations is dealing with Sana’a with complete indifference and a lack of seriousness.

This, he argued, is evidenced by the UN’s reneging on its Stockholm Agreement commitments.

According to Al-Mushki, those commitments included lifting restrictions on ports, ensuring the free entry of vessels, rehabilitating port facilities, relocating the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism (UNVIM) team from Djibouti to Hodeidah, and improving service sectors in line with the Hodeidah Agreement.

Maj. Gen. Al-Mushki said the Israeli presence in Somaliland constitutes a threat and a direct military act against Yemen and the entire region.

He warned that the Zionist presence could the spark for a regional conflict, with far-reaching implications for maritime security in the Red and Arabian Seas and the wider region.

The meeting was attended by members of the National Team and the Director of the UN Envoy’s Office, Mohammed al-Ghannam.
