The Russian Interior Ministry announced on Sunday that three people were killed and 21 others were injured in an explosion that occurred Saturday evening near a summer cafe in the vicinity of Building No. 1 on Kudrinskaya Square in Moscow.
According to Sputnik News Agency, the ministry said in a statement that “the explosion occurred at approximately 8:10 PM Moscow time,” adding that “police forces are working at the scene, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances.”
Later, the Russian Investigative Committee announced that the final number of dead and injured in the explosion on Kudrinskaya Square in central Moscow is still being determined, while investigators and forensic experts continue their work at the scene.
The committee stated: “The exact number of dead and injured is currently being verified, and work is underway to determine all the circumstances of the incident, while investigators and forensic experts continue to examine the scene.”
The committee explained that investigative teams from the Moscow Investigative Committee’s main department are currently conducting an on-site examination of the scene, while investigations continue to uncover all the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In the same context, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee of Russia revealed that the explosion that occurred on Saturday in Kudrinskaya Square in Moscow was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) that an unidentified woman attempted to bring into a restaurant. The explosion resulted in the death of three people and injuries to 21 others.
The committee stated in a press release that “the National Anti-Terrorism Committee’s Information Center reported that at 7:55 PM on August 1, 2026, an improvised explosive device detonated in a restaurant on Kudrinskaya Square in Moscow.”
The statement added that the explosion killed three people, including a security guard who prevented an unidentified woman from entering the restaurant. It is suspected that she attempted to smuggle the IED inside. The woman herself was killed, along with a restaurant patron. Twenty-one people sustained injuries of varying severity.
The National Counter-Terrorism Committee confirmed that law enforcement officers are continuing to work at the blast site.
