12 thousand & 590 Deaths and Injury in traffic accidents during year 1444 AH

12 thousand people died and 590 were injured as a result of 9,000 and 117 traffic accidents in the Capital Secretariat and provinces during the past year 1444 AH.

According to a statistic issued by the General Department of Traffic, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), 1,000 and 488 persons, including 260 women, died, and 11 thousand and 102 people, including 1,000 and 966 women, were injured.

It stated that 9,117 accidents were recorded, distributed among 3,496 pedestrian run-overs, 2,373 vehicle collisions, 2,124 motorcycle collisions, 669 rollover accidents, 264 fixed-body collisions, 154 falls from vehicles, 37 fires, bicycle collisions, animal collisions, and others. According to the statistics, material losses resulting from these accidents amounted to about four billion, 528 million and 440 thousand riyals.

It indicated that 13,631 persons accused of accidents, and 13,631 vehicles causing them, were arrested.

It indicated that the causes of accidents were distributed over speeding with 3,729 accidents, drivers negligence with 2,910 accidents, while pedestrians’ negligence led to 1,460 accidents, and juveniles using cars led to 98 accidents, while driving without licenses recorded 282 accidents, and a technical defect caused the occurrence of 291 accidents, and 347 accidents due to other reasons.

It pointed out that most of the places where accidents occur are flat roads followed by intersections, ramps, roundabouts, earth bridges and closed roads.

It called on all citizens to fully adhere to and abide by the laws, etiquette and traffic instructions, in order to ensure their safety and the safety of others, and to make the roads safer for their users.
