Gharibabadi: Iran to pursue the release of frozen assets

Iranian experts will continue discussions in Doha over the next two days on the issue of Iran’s frozen assets, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on Tuesday.

Gharibabadi said implementation of the memorandum of understanding had made progress in some areas, but violations of agreed commitments persisted with regard to the situation in Lebanon. He said the war in Lebanon must end and Israeli forces should withdraw from Lebanese territory, according to Iran’s Fars News Agency.

He added that Iran has established a special task force to monitor implementation of the memorandum, saying authorities are tracking all alleged breaches of the agreed commitments.

“If conditions are favorable, the working groups will begin negotiations,” Gharibabadi said.

He also denied reports of any talks with the United States in Doha.

“We are not holding any talks with the Americans in Doha. It is true that U.S. officials will be there, but we have no plans to meet them,” he said.

Gharibabadi said the Iranian delegation in Doha is participating at the expert level solely to follow up on implementation of the memorandum of understanding through Qatari mediation.
