Cuban Foreign Minister: Washington Practices Economic Coercion on Countries to Halt Trade with Our Country

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez affirmed on Friday that the United States practices economic coercion on countries to halt trade with his country.

Rodriguez said in a post on the “X” platform monitored by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba): “The US Secretary of State, taking advantage of his easy access to media attention and his ability to lie, repeatedly claims that his government does not prevent oil imports to Cuba.”

He added: “He seems to deliberately ignore Executive Order No. 14380 issued on January 29 of last year, which he drafted himself and President Trump signed, authorizing the imposition of punitive tariffs on imports from countries that supply oil to Cuba, directly or indirectly.”

He asked: “Is this not preventing oil imports to Cuba? How can the economic coercion practiced by a third party to stop trade with us be described as anything else?”

The Cuban Foreign Minister considered Washington’s measures as “a blockade that does not require the use of military force off our coasts if its goal can be achieved through the harshest pressure and blackmail.”
